Biography

Adda Gywn was the son of Ieuaf ap David, described as "of Glyn Fechan and Cae Mor" in the cantref of Chirkland in north-eastern Wales.[1]

His known children were:

  • Howell ab Adda, of Glyn Fechan in the parish of Llansantffraid Glyn Ceiriog.[1] He died in 1573.[2] He was recorded as "Howell ap Atha Gwynne" in a land grant in 1571.[3]
  • Thomas ab Adda, of Llansantffraid Glyn Ceiriog. He was named as "Thomas ap Adda my brother" in the will of Howell ab Adda in 1573.[2] He died in about 1588.[4]
  • Gwen ferch Adda. She was named as "Gwen v[erch] Adda my sister" in the will of Howell ab Adda in 1573.[2]
  • Edward ab Adda. He was named in his the will of Thomas ab Adda as "Ed[war]d ap Atha my brother".[4]

Research Notes

His birth is estimated at about 1470 to 1480, based on the death dates of his sons (1573 and 1588).

A pedigree for "Hafod Gynfor in Glyn Ceiriog" in Lloyd's History of Powys Fadog describes his ancestry as "Adda Gwyn ab Ieuaf ab David of Glyn Fechan and Cae Mor, third son of Adda ab Howel of Llys Trevor, second son of Ieuaf ab Adda ab Awr, Lord of Trevor."[1]
